The town of Andratx lies on the South Western side of the Island, and is a separate town to Port D’Andratx.
The town is easily reachable by road as the motorway from Palma goes right to it. It is not so much of a tourist resort, more a town where Mallorcans live. There isn’t a beach as it’s inland.
Like many Mediterranean towns, flowers seem to grow all year round, and walkways are decorated with them.
There are large street markets (held twice a week I believe), the stalls are plentiful enough that the whole town becomes dominated on market days as roads are given over to house the stalls. Whilst traditional market fare is for sale, there is also a large fresh fish and vegetables section, the sights and sounds and smells need to be seen to be appreciated.
The town is also home to a rather spectacular cactus garden, which doesn’t appear to be advertised anywhere. Entry is free, and the gardens are apparently maintained municipally. Well worth a quiet hour away from the crowds.
