After losing my "new" camera after just a few months of ownership it is now time to buy a replacement.

The one I lost was a Panasonic Lumix TZ-6 which I was delighted with. I bought it of ebay as a factory refurbished unit and it cost me £110 plus P&P Now the TZ-6 has been superseded and the updated model the TZ-8 is much more expensive. for a few pound more the TZ-10 top of the range model adds HD video capability.

I have also been impressed with yosef's pictures from his Sony which is about the same price range, there are also a couple of Samsung ones which offer the same facilities at a comparable price.

I had a look on ebay and the company I bought my last camera from are selling some more factory refurbished units from £95 and I can't decide if I should buy the same one again or go for a more expensive one with more whistles and bells, is it worth it ?

I love the panoramic view settings on Yosefs camera. Im looking for a new one now ,I want one with a good zoom
and a one that takes good action shots AND the panoramic view mode. After seeing all these brilliant shots Im well
into now.

I think most cameras have a panorama mode but the Sony takes all the hassle out of joining them together afterwards

A big decision with buying a camera is whether you require one to fit in your pocket. I owned quite a large video camera and loved filming but
each time I went out I had to decide whether to lug it around with me, if I didn't take it, I would always wanted it.

When we were in the market for a camera Mrs Delboy liked the Panasonic Lumix FS20 small and compact, whilst I would have preferred the TZ5 with
a bigger optical zoom. We ended up with the FS20 and it goes out with us on every holiday jaunt.

There was a FX10 that had wider screen and HD, marginally dearer than the FS20 which I feel now would have been the better buy.

If in the market for a camera now I guess, I would now go for the biggest optical zoom that would fit in my pocket with HD quality.

I would still love to get a camcorder HD but not sure I could justify the cost with the amount of use. I did however, enjoy filming our fishing
holiday with my friends camcorder but these sort of trips are few and far between these days.

Ill look at the sony. The other thing I must have is a good night mode, Ive read about this on line and now know
where I went wrong, you have to slow the shutter speed down to get as much light in as possible and keep the
camera perfectly still, Ive had a few practice shots and it works now. So what do I need in a camera------------

Good Night shots
Decent zoom
Panoramic view mode

I know you dont get all this on budget cameras as such but I think Ill look at around £150 and see what there is out there
gulp never spent money like that before on a camera lol

Yeah I like to do video clips as well Ive got a few on youtube. Again glad you brought up the size, I wouldnt want to
be walking round with a big thing hanging around my neck lol. a small pocket on would be good. Sop really Im not asking for
much lol.

It seems a fact of life that the camera that does everything is the biggest and heaviest digital SLR but small is getting better
you should get a super small digital one for £150, as prices are coming down with latest high spec trying to hold £200

H's TZ-10 which would be a consideration for me is being priced at £189

the seller is DIGIGOOD,and the camera is dispatched from brighton,and is new,not a refurb.
sounds like a good deal to me.

It was digigood I bought my refurbed Lumix TZ-6 from, Ordered it one day dispatched the next arrived the day after.


£150 seems to be about the going rate now at Comet etc

I just realised a slight issiue with the sony for me and that is it uses their own memory stick cards rather than the more common
SC Cards Mrs h's laptop and my netbook both have an SD card slot in them.

Thats how they sting you ,I think Ide rather go down the normal sd card route nice and cheap on ebay

It's not a cost thing with me but ease of use with my computers which all accept SD cards

I've had a bit of time to play around today, so after seeing yosef's excellent panoramic pics, I thought i'd explore exactly what features my cameras can do (I've got a few).
How bloody daft do I feel now I've found out that even my chucked to the back of the drawer one, a Kodak M1093 IS, even has 'Pano' mode!
So I've just gone outside and done a photo of my street with it, hand held, no tripod, no special settings, just bog standard, and this is the result:



The house in the middle hasn't 'stiched' together perfectly, but for a simple practice picture it's not bad.

So, with respect to Daryn's photo taking capabilities, I feel that the £150+ price bracket that you are looking at might be a bit too much money to spend, they'll be too many features and it'll be lost on 'us' amateurs'

I respectfully suggest that this camera for under £60 is going to contain pretty much everything that Daryn is going to require:

I think I should add that this 'demand' for more mega pixels is misleading. I have most of my cameras set at 5 or 6 meg, absolutely fine for 'snaps'.
The above pano was taken at 4.8 meg, results are fine even for low light like today.

I totally agree Mark, I still have my first (and most expensive) digital camera a pentax 3MP and the quality is as good as Mrs H's 7MP Casio.

A lot of the quality is down to the quality of the lens and not the Megapixel rating.

I have no Idea why they put 8 megapixel sensors in phones as the lens quality is rubbish and the phones are too thin to be able to improve things any.

Yes your right apparently the eye cannot see much above 2 mega pixs but of course if you wish to blow up
part of the picture the mega pixs will come into play. How often do you just pick a part of the picture or blow
it up to poster size.

I do however value the optical zoom lens crap on my camera


PS I was going to put a pic with the beach of Fuertoventura so far in the distance and with a good zoom it would have been so
much better.

It is worth having a camera with a wide angle lens, I would value that more than zoom capability. A camera with an equivalent 25 mm wide angle lens gives a different perspective to pictures. See Yosef's pics as proof of this.

oh your all confusing me lol, I would love a good zoom in, maybe my camera is good enough lol, but dont have a great
zoom. I have the Samsung S1065 and it take great photos daytime, Ive also found it takes good night shots now I know
what Im doing lol gonna check now to see if it has panoramic mode. But would still love a great zoom. I loved the action
shot that yosef done with the birds taking off, it does have action mode on this. Maybe I havent experimented enough.
