Spain, Costa del sol, Fuengirola _

Stayed in Feungirola 2009. Id never visited the costa del sol so after some research plumped for this resort and had a hire car to explore. The resort is massive! We stayed in Los Boliches area which was in my opinion the nicest part. The walk along the seafront to the main area where the harbour is and town centre was a good 30 minutes.

There is a wide very long beach that runs the full length of the area. Got to be well over a mile long and each hotel over looking the beach seemed to have an area of sunbeds named after the hotel. Every 200 yards or so there were beach restaurants called chiringuitos that cook fish on open coal fires insde fishing boats (mainly sardines) the smells were delicious.

Los Boliches had lovely quiant streets running at the back off the main beach road and some great restaurants and local bars, the bars were the type you sit outside and watch the world go by. Down town Fuengirola had the usual music bars and a large back street of restaurants normally refered to as fish alley. The Marina area was disapointing, run down and in need of a face lift. Grafiti on walls etc. Not nice at all. Though there was an area of large bouncy castles and kids play areas. (at small fee)

We styed at Ronda 4 apartments and had a great frontline view, they also had a cracking pool for kids, very large apartments not plush but great for us.
Fuengirola is a great base for exploring the area, we had a car throughout and visited all the resorts along the coast, Torromolinos, Nerja, marbella ETC. Fuengirola also has a cracking zoo that the kids loved.

Id recommend Los Boliches area, it was lovely but personally would avoid the main town area, not that nice, signs of drug dealing prostitution etc.

Great honest review there Ian, rep from me. clap clap Brought back memories as I lived along at Arroyo de la Miel/Benalmadena for 2 years, but looked around Los Boliches, when I was looking for a bar. Totally agree with you about Fuengirola, the port & town was going down hill a bit when I lived there. Had a few nights down Fish Alley at O'Briens Bar, & on the front at The London Pub. Los Boliches is a great place to stay & I remember seeing the Ronda apartments & they looked fine, just far enough away, but close enough to Fuengirola. As you had a hire car, I doubt if you would have ever used the Renfe train system. Brilliant & pretty cheap transport from Fuengirola to Malaga City.

Nice review Ian, rep from me.

Went there for an evening from Torremolinos, caught the Renfe, just had a walk around town and a few beers in the town square just a bit down from the train station, not sure what area of the town that was called.
