I thought we had a thread on this before, but can't find it? Have found the Sky pictures one below, but there was one before with pics of the moon on it I thought? Never mind. Having been prompted by 'Stargazing Live' on BBC I had a go at photographing the planet Jupiter. It's really easy to see, pretty much the brightest thing in the sky due south, about 9pm. Easy to see, an absolute mare to photograph
This is about the best one I got, you can just about make out the rings.

watched a bit of the programme tonight, going through all the telescopes you can buy. It made me laugh when they said just pop into your local telescope shop...............yer right loads to pick from in Aylesbury

Ahhh.... I said rings... well the rings on Jupiter aren't to be confused with the more prominent rings of Saturn. Jupiters 'rings' are rings of cloud.
And when you photograph the planet in real life it's on it's side, not nicely photoshopped into horizontal.
