I originally bought these tickets for my mum and dad however my dad has now fallen critically ill and therefore they are no longer able to go, to re arrange the dates would cost too much due to the charges Jet2 put on and it is not really an option for them as we have no idea how my dad is going to be after this illness so eBay is my last chance as I have asked family and friends and nobody is able to get the time off to take these bargain price tickets off my hands

The flights would be ideal for people booking a villa holiday or alternatively you could book a hotel through Expedia as we did, saved money doing it that way rather than booking a package deal

The outbound flights leave Leeds 3pm on Sunday the 19th of June 2010 and they return back to Leeds from Palma airport in Majorca at 9pm on Sunday the 26th of June 2010, each passenger is allowed one 10kg piece of hand luggage and also one 22kg piece of hold luggage which has been included in the price, meals have not been included as the flight is only about 2hrs

I have checked the flights online on Jet2.com and for the same flights it would cost £428 so for you to pay £310 for this is a bargain

Thank you for your kind messages, I'm hoping so as well, my mum didn't get round to taking out insurance as my dad fell ill not that long after booking therefore I'm trying my best to get some money back for them, Expedia have been great with their cancellation policy and we have managed to get a full refund for the hotel but its a shame Jet2 don't follow in their footsteps, they can't offer us anything, did try eBay but got it got kicked off due to Atol regulations, anyway thank you again and if you have any tips/advice on selling them, ie, other sites please don't hesitate to share it with me

No good to me.Ryanair return flights for 2 Liverpool-PMI same dates including 15kgs each baggage, less than £200 in total currently.(Not wishing to preach but if you are booking single trip insurance it needs to be taken from the date of booking).Which is about what you paid before the name change charges.

In that case I am open to offers as I have no use for them, I didn't realise Ryanair had reduced their prices, when I checked them at the time of booking they were actually coming out at more, so if anyone wants to make an offer for these two flights then please get in touch and I will think about it

Regarding holiday insurance do you take out annual insurance as I know when we have booked to go on holiday sometimes Ive not realised I had insurance left over, also as Im wiring I did not recheck your posts did you pay by credit card if so is there any help to
be had there. I really hope you get something back for them.

Here is something you could check, Ive been looking into this for you and it looks like the credit card company does not have to
pay out for illness as thats what travel insurance is for BUT and I hope in your case this works out, if you paid
via a credit card or visa card or some other card from the bank just check to see if you get free travel insurance, some banks do
give this if you have an account with them. Fingers crossed Im hoping this is the case, a friend of mine used the free bank travel
insurance they had once before. I know its a long shot but please let us know, dont mention the illness until you get the facts
from the bank first and make sure its in writing somewhere then you might have a chance to get something back :-bd:

Good call Daryn, if you've got a Gold or Platinum account at the bank you normally get free travel insurance with it... you don't have to have paid for the flights with that Banks card in order to qualify.

I paid for the flights with my Lloyds accounts and unfortunatly I only have the standard account with them as I only go on holiday one or two times a year therefore have not bothered ungrading to the silver account, I usually use the same travel insurance provider, thomas cook, when I go away as I have a pre existing medical condition and even though I have never had to claim off them they have always been good not charging me £££'s extra for something which is beyond my control which I find quite unfair.

Even if I had had insurance with the bank would it of still covered my mum and dad as it would of been in my name?

Im not sure, but its still worth checking with your bank, you never know. I cant think of anything else to be honest.

Does anyone know if Visa Debit offer any cover or is that only if the airline goes bust?

Here is a thought, these companies charge a fortune for different taxes, now I wonder if you could even claim them
and baggage money back from the airline company, I know Im clutching at straws here but I would want something back.

Visa debit have a type of cover (called chargeback) but it's not the type of cover that perhaps you're thinking of.
It's more to do with goods not being supplied when a company goes bust (for instance) before you receive what you've paid for.

Thanks Daryne I will try ringing the bank, got nothing to loose, will give them a call and let you know how I get on. On the other option can you believe they actually charge you a fee for that too but will look into it again and see if its worth while

Have you managed to get anywhere with your tickets? We have unfortunately found ourselves in a very similar situation to you and are just trying to find out what our options are. My parents in law can no longer travel with us for health reasons, we have jet 2 tickets I paid for on a credit card and I have annual travel insurance. My parents in law do not have travel insurance - having seen your post I am wondering if I can claim on my travel insurance for their flights. Seems unlikely I know.

Our tickets are from Blackpool to Palma, out 26/06 in 10/07. We would probably accept any offers as the alternative options are not really viable.

I hope you manage to get some kind of solution to your problem, and more importantly, that things go as well as they can for your dad.

Ian.My understanding is if you booked and paid for all the flights of the people in your party including your in-laws and (this is the important bit) you are all prevented from travelling because of illness to members of the party then I would submit an insurance claim.If only the in-laws have dipped out then your only chance is to try and sell their flights on.However with all the costs and ar*e ache involved of changing passenger names it's not really viable.

I hope you get sorted out, if you read further up I posted about some banks giving free travel insurance to its members etc you may be able to claim on it if you have it.

Sorry to hear about your in laws, can they travel at any other time for example next year?

We are now probably going to change the dates on the flights to next year which is going to cost about £135 in total to do, its either that or stand to loose the whole cost of the flights, my dad has made very slight inprovement but he is not out of the woods and still in intensive care with a lot of life support, going to go see him this weekend, I hate seeing him like that though..

I've decided to still use my ticket and fly out to Majorca next month, seems a waste for us not to go, I'm going to stay in regular contact with my mum and if my dad gets any worse I will then just fly straight home, its only 2hrs on the plane so thats a plus..

I've also written a letter to Jet2 explaining the situation with my dad and asking them if they could waiver the change of dates fees but not sure if I will get anything back, however its worth a try, best of luck with you, try Gumtree for selling also..

Yep good advice there, moving the dates is better than losing the whole lot, glad to here your dad is a bit better please keep us posted.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Insurance isn't an option for my parents in law as they hadn't taken it out yet - sounds silly now, but never really thought you needed travel insurance whilst in the UK. We might try and change their dates, but on jet2 site you can only book up until October or so this year, which isn't perhaps the best time to go...Think that it might be throwing good money after bad if we change dates and don't use them. Like you Ruth we'll still be going, but we'll miss them - they'd be furious if we didn't go because of them. By the way, do let us know how you get on with jet2 - seems unlikely, but you never know. Hope things get better for your dad.
