this walk took about 3 and a half hours and covered 6/8 miles.it starts at llanthony priory then climbs sharply uphill for 30 minutes,then levels off on offa's dyke path that gives stunning views below of the priory and the english/wales border.
the walk now takes you along the spine of the mountain for about 2 miles giving superb views of the surrounding welsh mountains,ie the carmarthen fans,brecon beacons.then you come to a marker that directs you downhill to capel y finn,this descent is very,very steep and was hard going on the thighs and knees.after crossing a few fields and clambering over stiles you now reach the country lane that takes you back to the priory.the day we visited (easter sunday) it was very busy with folk who had camped at the foot of the mountain and others who had come for the walks and horse riding.
due to the sharp,lung burning uphill start and the steep and strenuous descent i would grade this a 7.
