| I was listening to a radio show earlier. They had some Irish people on who were running their own businesses in Athens. Greece has no incentive to make a deal. The troika want to cut pensions ( already cut by 40% down to 300 euro PER MONTH). There is 57% unemployment in the under 25 age group. They dont get ANY social welfare after 12 months ( 100 euro PER MONTH for firstyear). Wages are down by an average of 27%. Troika want to increase price of electricity by 10% and raise the VAT rate which is already at 23% . Why would the Greeks sign up to that? They may as well take their chances by defaulting. They already have a primary budget surplus. AND the big elephant in the room is Russia who has offered loans at very low rates to tide them over the next 12 months by which time, if they are canny with their tax take, they could be self sufficient. |

| Well Russia need to get some sort of foreign investment going as they are feeling the pinch with all the sanctions imposed with the Ukraine saga.
But I also think Greece would be quids in by defaulting and going back to the Drachma... it'd effectively be a devaluation and things would be dirt cheap = more tourists instead of going to places like Bulgaria who are't in the Euro.
The Euro is doomed long term now IMO. |

| That's what I said a while back Mark Drachma is the only way to bring back the tourists. _________________ |

| VAT could hit many tourists to Greece so they can try and stay in the Euro, dont think that will work do you. http://www.msn.com/en-gb/travel/news/british-tourists-will-be-hit-by-greek-tax-hike-plans/ar-AAc0Kwr?ocid=mailsignoutmd _________________ |

| Greece banks are down to their last £500million, things are looking bad, fuel is rationed, businesses are closing down as they cannot inport export.
The Euro has killed Greece off, they should have never joined in the euro

| Yeah but they also joined the euro at too high an exchange rate, basically because they fiddled the books, declaring certain debts were paid and made things look rosier than they are/were. I've got mixed feelings about it the more you look into it. It's like teenage daughter syndrome, basically they spend all their wages and then ask Dad for more money to cover their phone bills and for petrol it's like the wages went on all the goodies and the basic stuff didn't get paid for |

| Greece is a total bottomless pit, when will it end, they cannot possibly pay this back.
In July, after much tortuous negotiation, the country received €7.16bn which it immediately used to make a due payment to the European Central Bank and to pay its arrears to the International Monetary Fund.
Now talks are underway about a third bailout, but with another €3.2bn due to be paid to the ECB on 20 August, the timing to get everything signed and sealed looks increasingly tight. Hence the suggestion that another bridging loan of perhaps €5bn might be necessary

| More billions made available to greece, they will never pay it back. The EU would have been better off sqaushoing the debt already owed and allow Greece to get on with building their country up from scratch TBH http://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/eurogroup-approves-third-bailout-for-debt-ridden-greece/ar-BBlKBqe?ocid=mailsignoutmd _________________ |

| Yeah, let them build up another mountain of debt that they can't pay back, then write that off, start again, in the meantime Spain want a similar deal... and so on.
Welcome to the world of Capitalism, where if you haven't got any money you go hungry, and if you want to protect that money that you do have, then you have to let hungry people on a boat trying to escape, drown. |
