lots of bars and restos along the way to stop in for a meal or a drink delboy,lots of beds,chairs ect.the beach in ca'n picafort is narrow and gets a bit busy,best bet is to go a bit further towards alcudia or better still stay at the son baulo area,lovely.
we have stayed in june and sept and we had no problems at all with mozzies,don't remember any other guests complaining about them either.
lovely place and i highly reccomend it,wil be doing a full report when we return in june,we are staying at a different hotel this time which is more of a adults hotel

I'll look forward to the review as its could be a possible for us in future, you know the lowdown on food prices, beds and drinks etc if we self catered

Re Nature Reserve of s'Albufera (the one referred to by yozef).Being natural wetlands it is a mosquitos-breeding ground.When conditions are favourable (to them which means not for humans) there are plagues of them as far up as Alcudia and as far down as C'an Picafort.They can be a real nuisance.Their activity is unpredictable but they are bad following prolonged wet weather.Always take repellent with you when visiting Alcudia Bay resorts just in case.Makes me laugh when you get posts on TA from people who have returned from say Puerto Alcudia or C'an Picafort saying indignantly they were pre-warned about mosquitos but never saw one.Do they think those that know about them invent these negatives to beware of? (Bit like street crime in Barcelona).

One very attractive place we came across not by chance between San Baulo and Arta is Colonia de Sant Pere.I read about it in a brochure highlighting places to visit in Majorca off the beaten track.It's not far at all off the main Arta-Alcudia road Ma 12.It makes no gestures to holidaymakers in other words it is a locals sort of traditional place.A few villas for hire.Some small scenic coves with spectacular panoramic views of the sweep of Bay of Alcudia and there are small free roadside car parks overlooking the sea.A quaint village square,a few shops and bars but main facilities are in Arta.A car is essential.

It's quite a few years ago but I recall that after visiting the coves and walking around the village we sat in the village square in the sun at lunchtime scoffing ice creams and the schoolchildren were playing in the school playground nearby.Considering how small the village was I remember being surprised by how many children were in the school.

Worth a detour to see a part of uncommercialised Majorca.

if you want to pick a possible choice of accomodation for a stay in son baulo or ca'n picafort delboy i will check it out in june,talk to folk staying there and get photo's ect.
as regards prices we thought it was quite reasonable,though we were h/b so only had light snacks in the lunch time. we were paying e2.80 for a pint of strongbow and local lager was e1.50 a pint.
any info wanted just let me know ok

Great photo's again Yosef. What is fantastic about this Forum, is the great knowledge passed on to everyone, as well as the banter we all join in with. :-bd:

We tend to appreciate beaches like that my budget usually entails the cost of evening/lunchtime meals, chairbeds/ parasols (as Mrs Delboy is past uncomfortable lidos) and the general cost of drinks (bottle of wine).

The accommodation is usually Mrs Delboy's province and out of brochures. Not sure whether the mozzies would be a put off as they tend to go for Mrs Delboy and other places may have a lesser problem.

So any information on things like this are well worth knowing and I certainly appreciate the advice given before hand rather than experience problems myself.

eg We tend not to be poolside people and the thought of 19 euro's for beds in Menorca is a big put off for us

Reported today that TUI have lost a major court case following 49 claims of their customers falling ill with salmonella and chryptosporidium (?) at the Hotel Son Baulo in 2003.The solicitors Irwin Mitchell who specialise in claims against tour operators brought the cases.It is believed that as a result of today's decision by the judge TUIcould be hit with substantial claims for compensation as the judge held that TUI failed to protect the welfare of their customers.All those who fell ill had used the hotel pool in which faeces were floating,and also the restaurant food was under-cooked.Has improved a bit since then Yozef?

And judging by the problems TUI have been having on their cruise ship Thomson Dream,currently in the Caribbean,since May 2010 Irwin Mitchell could be storing up more trouble for TUI.Those interested can see many current threads on TA Cruises Forum with Thomson Dream in the heading.

I wouldn't normally reply beeech but as your friends are on their way...Sewage smells on decks/interrupted water supplies to cabins/non-functioning aircon/and worse.Sewage coming up the plughole in cabin bathrooms/flooded cabins.This ship just before she was handed over to Thomson from Costa in April 2010 had a collision in high winds with the harbour wall in Sharm,Egypt.The resultant damage to the ship's infrastructure has not so far been corrected.Your friends might be lucky but be prepared for bad feedback.

I can not wait to go on our holiday this August to Son Baulo Hotel, was nice to see some of your pictures The kids are so excited about going if you have any good visiting places to go to please let me know
