I have a Santander credit card, and they have now notified me that the Santander Travel Club, in association with Thomas Cook, will NOT be taking any more new bookings from 1st Jan 2014.

Read into that what you will. But alarm bells ring for me, as TC have been battling against administration for a while now.

yes they had a large bank rescue a few years back but who knows

This raises a good point with holiday companies passport travel cards, what would happen if a travel company were to go bust would the contents of your travel card be lost

or a bank's passport card for that matter

I think bank passport cards del, - if you mean pre loaded cards? - are all backed by the Visa or Mastercard logo, and therefore any cash put on them is protected.

This morning Thos Cook annouced their figures, the BBC said if I heard correctly that they had lost over 200 million but was better than last year when 500 million was lost.  

However, it said to be on track here

Well, the other thing is, is that TC have got thousands, - literally - of court cases yet to be heard for flight delay compensation. But next to a £200 mill loss, a drop in the ocean I suppose.
