| Got back last week from good old Santa Ponsa, thought I would give a bit of a review, however i dont have any photos.
We had the best part of 3 weeks in our favorite resort, my kids are now 6 & 8.
At the beginning of the holiday, we went on the Soller train which was great, we then got the tram down to the port of Soller, which is very nice and quiet, maybe a bit too quiet for the kids, we popped into a resto for lunch and have to say we found the service non existant and food just OK, still luck of the draw.
We went to the waterpark, I had heard that this year the prices had gone up a lot, so we took a picnic and off we went. We had a 15% off voucher and when we go to the kiosk, my kids were wearing waterpark caps from last year, so he let one of them in for free, result!! Had a great time, went to get a beer and ice cream and a lady in front of me had ordered five burger meals and Im sure it was E65, so glad we bough the picnic!
Spent a lot of the time on the beach and when we fancied a pool would mooch round to the Watering Hole to use theirs, this year they were charging for sunbeds but not too much, shame really as last year there was no charge so we were buying lunch there and probably spending more money.
One day we hired out a liitle motor boat with some friends of ours from Pascal who runs the jetskis (Moocher do you know him), it was E140 for three hours which I thought was good value, it really was great fun!
Our friends had an apartment in the Ceasers complex, so sometimes went round to see them and do a bit of snorkling in the liitle cove, it was great, we would swim out a short way and chuck bits of bread in, the fish would then swim all around you!
When we went out to eat, we visited Miamis, Xaloc, Crocs, Balcon de Maria, Boston O'bradys and Cafe Oakey for lunch, all of which were excellent and good value.
If we did go for drink, we would go to Bar Code which has some good kids stuff and a live singer!
In the last week, my inlaws came out and styed at the Playas de Mallorca hotel along the front, and I have to say it was very clean and tidy, this isn't all inclusive, so no problem with people plotting up at the bar from 11.00 all day! They put on the odd bit of daytime entertaimnet which was either water areobics, shooting or diving games for the kids. One evening we had a meal there, was just a buffet but a great selection of meats, peallas etc. As we dont tend to use hotels in SP, I can really compare but I have to say it was very nice.
we had a day in Palma Nova and got one of the 4 seater bike things, felt a bit silly but was a great laugh!
Also did a boat trip round to Paguera for lunch, great place as usual.
We had such a great time and really didnt want to come back.
My overall view on Santa Ponsa: The resort was buzzing with families which was lovley, I didnt really see any idiots running about and didnt see any 'problems' (although we wern't out after 12.00). The prices have defo dropped since last year so did spend a bit less. A few places were closed/closing which is always a shame. We went to Traceys Bar to watch the Chelsea games and she said she is closing this month (even though the bar was packed), she has worked so hard but as it is tucked out of sight, it was always gonna be a tough one.
Palma Nova was also very nice during the day, we had a nice lunch looking out on to the beach, didnt spend a great deal of time there but enjoyed it.
As I said we really didn't want to come home and my wife and I were talking about how much we would love to live out here and start a business, it couldn't be a bar cos I would probably drink the profit! So, who knows?! |

| An absolutely honest review there Ro, as you always tell it as it is. A rep from me as well.
I would steer well clear of the bar trade mate, as your friend has found out, even with a packed bar that night of the football, she can't make it pay. IMO, a lot is to do with the Hotels that are A/I, people have paid for their holiday up front, so why would they go to another bar & pay for drinks etc? I was so lucky when I had my bar on the Costa del Sol, as I sold out just in time, as I didn't lose any money. We have all heard of people walking away from their bar & coming back to England or wherever, as their dreams are shattered.
I still look at the price of bars from who I bought mine off 11 years ago, the price of bars are in some instance less than a few thousand pounds, but you have to ask the question. Why are they so cheap?? People see bars full over their holiday period & think I could do that, but what they don't realise is that you have to pay rent all year round, not just for the main holiday period of about 4 to 6 months.
I was always told when I had my bar, to make a small fortune out there, you have to take a big fortune out with you.

| Cheers Mick, totally agree with you, it wouldn't be a bar and to be honest it would only happen if we didnt need to depend on the income 100% ie have something in the background.
pipe dream really!!
.......but you never know! |
