Hayzer - thanks for your PM suggesting I post something. I've been a member since June (followed a link on TA) and was delighted to see so many familiar names here. I now log on most days to enjoy all the fun that goes on & pick up some holiday tips but, to be honest, I'm not that great at contributing so I'll just make my first post a potted "holiday history".
I've been visiting Mallorca on-and-off for about 30 years - as a family when my children were young, with my husband before he died and for the past 7 years, either on my own or with my sister. I've stayed in or visited most parts of the island (apart from the north-east) and love each area for different reasons - it depends on what sort of holiday I feel like at the time.
My husband and I travelled all over the world when the children finally graduated and left home (and we became rich overnight!!) but now, I really don't want to endure any more long-haul flights or to see any more far-flung sights. I love Spain & all (well nearly all) things Spanish so I just go to the Costa del Sol, Mallorca or the Canary Islands, with an occasional French gite family get-together. As someone on the forum said - it's the same sun shining wherever you are!
When I was widowed & then retired, my financial & time circumstances obviously changed so I decided to have 3 or 4 "budget" holidays a year, rather than 1 luxury one. I book my flights, hotels & transfers separately & always manage to get really good deals - especially as I don't travel in the peak season. My next trip is on my own to Can Pastilla for 9 nights in October. I like it there as it's got a sort of "lived-in" feeling and is so close to Palma for shopping, sight-seeing & transport links. I'm really looking forward to sitting at a bar on the paseo with a glass (or 2) of vino blanco, watching the world go by - bliss!
I'm sorry this is a bit long - aren't you all glad I don't post a lot??!! I'm just going to add one more to the "holiday romance" thread & then I'll probably be back to my usual "reading-only" self.
Many thanks to you all for the daily entertainment and my best wishes for a great time on 3 October.
