Is there a hospital near Palma Nova/Magaluf and is the EHIC accepted for an emergency?

We had this post years back but I cannot find it, basically a member told us she worked in hospitals in the uk and on the island in Majorca, basically she told us she wouldn't hesitate having treatment on the Island but would think twice in the UK

There's a brand new A & E hospital in Palma now.

So I think that's 3 major hospitals in Majorca, coupled with walk in centres.

EHIC widely accepted and recognised. Don't go without it has been the advice for many years now.

also make sure it is in date, it only last 5 years and they don't tell you when it's due for renewal

EHIC is no substitute for travel insurance imo. It doesn't cover repatriation expenses for you or a companion.

dont foregt to take copies of your EHIC card, we queued twicw as we had to find a photocopier. We got back to our flat and found copies we had left there form previous years doh!!

Having said that service was great whne my little girl was taken unwell.

We didnt need to produce our insurance, but as 4th says ensure you are insured.

yes always have travel insurance but I guess from your enquiry you may have concerns of an existing problem

After a lot of reading I got my insurance with Holiday Safe, they were voted best holiday insurance for a few years running by which magazine. Prices are reasonable and well worth having.

I know a couple that went to Spain and the husband died over their, she had to pay £1000's to get his body flown back, I think it was something like £5000, they never used insurance.

I don't have concerns about an existing problem, but I have concerns about hospitals wanting a lot of money upfront or your credit card before they treat you for something that you haven't got!!!
I do have insurance, I would never travel without it, but we should be able to use the EHIC for treatment.

Yes I know what you are saying alot been spoken about this, friends of ours moved to Majorca and he had a heart attack they got him in and sorted a by-pass straight away.

Moocher mentioned the Son Dureta before which is not far from the Calvia area, Palma Nova/Magaluf/ Santa Ponsa etc, its a university hospital http://hsd.hospitalsonespases.es/

yes noticed that happening in Lanzarote, so purposefully when and photographed the hospital for everyone to see but not been recently to Majorca

He photographed a porpoise near the hospital in Lanzarote. It them emigrated to Majorca.

Private doctors operating in Playa Blanca were charging over 100 euros to give presciptions for ear ache, so I photographed the way to the nearest hospital clinic that would take the ECHI card

I think what confused Beeech was that you photographed how to get to the clinic in a REVIEW.
