Hoping that some one can advise on a few trips we are wanting to make when we are on holiday in Palma Nova (Fri 10th Aug – Sun 19th Aug). Although we have visited Majorca umpteen times & hired cars to visit different parts of the island we have never “done” Palma!! So seeing as we are staying in Palma Nova we thought this would be the ideal opportunity. This is what we’d like to try & plan before we get there:

1. Visit Palma by boat from Palma Nova. Ideally we want enough time to see the cathedral, wander around, have lunch etc., Any tips on what to see while in Palma..ie are there any hidden gems? We are staying at the C’as Saboners apartments so where’s best to get a boat from, times, cost etc.

2. Get bus to Palma & then get the train to Soller & then the tram to Port Soller. Again where to get the bus from/to & times would be appreciated. Train/tram times would also be a great help. Also for those in the know is Soller worth a look round before heading down into Port Soller?

3. While in Palma Nova we’re thinking we might take in the Pirate Show. Is it as good as I’m hearing? Again as we are staying at C’as Saboners is this walkable or would a taxi be recommended? We don’t mind a 15/20 minute walk as long as it’s safe and not along a highway. Would we be best booking on-line or can we find it cheaper in resort? Not interested in the meal package as we will probably eat either before or afterwards.

4. Considering hiring bikes for a day – Is there a coastal path that connects with …Portals Nous one way & Cala Vinas in the other direction?

I assume you have seen the reviews on Palma, there are three buses that go from Palma Nova the fastest I believe is the 105 which uses the motorway, whilst the other two go the coastal way

The Pirates show is well worth a trip Johnieboy. I would say it is about a 20 to 25 minute walk for you from your apartments, depending how quickly or slowly you walk. I think that there are about 2 trips a day to Palma by boat, so well worth a go, not sure on the price, sorry. Delboy has summed up the rest of what you are looking for brilliantly.

Palma is brilliant I would advise you to visit it twice, once through the day and once at night. Basically the bus stops across the road from the Cathedral, it has really nice grounds around it, Ive never gone by boat before so cant advise on that but we have watched the boats come and go, here is the link to the company that does these trips, you can catch the boat from magaluf or Palma Nova http://www.cruceroscostadecalvia.com/nueva/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=48&Itemid=62&lang=en

When your facing the cathedral from the main road if you head to the left this will bring you to the harbour and there is some amazing boats/ships there to look at. At night if you head in the same direction you will come across little stalls that sells alsorts of little niknaks from these stalls you will see a great old square its always buzzing with people eating outside the restauarnts its great for people watching.
Basically I haven't got a clue what all the places are called we just find Palma an amazing place to visit full stop, we just wander around you come across lots of old interesting buildings and bar/restaurants, its defo worth the visit.

There is a bike hire shop on the coast of Palma Nova not far from where you are staying, its next to the small shopping complex Los curries is above this shopping complex I can give you a better directions if you need it. I done the walk from Magaluf to Cala Vinyas and was a little disappointed with that area, its all hills but not a great walk at all you will see this on my review Del has posted, there is no coastal path to that resort.

Pirates is not far from the gaudalupe hotel walk past this hotel away from the magaluf resort you will pass a very small church on your right and come to the pirates, its about 5 minutes walk from this hotel and as Mick said about 20/25 minutes walk from your apartments, again Ill give you better directions if you need them, Ive never been to see the show for years but it was a great show when we saw it.

The C'as Saboners apartments actually hire bikes out from reception as well. They are on a rack outside. Just go out and pick one, make a note of the number on the padlock, and go into reception and quote the number, simples

It's our second visit to C'as Saboners & Palma Nova however last year we just stayed in the resort and only wondered as far as Maga. Wanting to take this opportunity to see a bit more of this part of the island. Starting to get a little concerned by some of the negative reviews of the apartments though!!!!

On our forum we tell it as it is, no point in writing a review otherwise but our lady Debs has stayed there many times and not had problems but the wrong groups of people stayed there this year.

Johnieboy I will be very interested to hear what it was like when you get back.
We were there 27th june - 10th july this year & to be honest it was dreadful most days , eves & nights. Loads of young all male/female groups, I don't have a problem with them enjoying themselves but NOT when it interferes with my holiday. We had our 2 grandchildren with us this time, also our son in law was on his 2 weeks R & R from Afghan - it was definately NOT rest & relaxation for him
Anyway I hope you have a lovely time & it has quietened down now.

We are booked to go back for 2 weeks in sept but I told the staff unless it improves we won't be back, although we have stayed there at least 17/18 times in the past few years.

Hi Debdon - yes we stayed there last year and although there were a few stag/hen dos they didn't interfere too much with our holiday. Reading some of the more recent reviews it looks like there are a lot more there this year!!! Fingers crossed & I will let you know how we get on....going 10th Aug for 9 nts :-)

Just back (unfortunately with a stinking cold/sore throat/bad head etc ...suppose better half will call it "man-flu"!!).

Anyhow besides that we had a fantastic 9 nts at the C'as Saboners once again. Feel it needs a bit more TLC than it did last year but didn't spoil it for us. I don't know whether you were very unlucky with the crowd who were there when you stayed but although there was a stag group of 23, two hen groups of 15+, other smaller mixed sex groups there was no trouble at all. The lifeguard certainly kept an eye on what was going on round the pool and stopped bombing and any other over rowdy behaviour. He did however allow them to drink while in/sitting on edge of the pool which I wasn't too impressed with. Made me smile though when he presented the groups with huge bin bags for them to tidy up all the bottles & cans. Give them their due they did tidy up.

We had 4 of the 23 in the room next to us and didn't hear them once....I think we may have disturbed them more!!!!! We didn't hear any noise after midnight although I think the noise of the a/c would have drowned out a Boeing 757 landing, but needed as this was the hottest I have known Majorca.

Had a great time - hired bikes, visited Palma by bus, did the Western Waterpark, went on the donuts x2, and lost count of the number of times we swam out to the blue platform in the bay. Ate at Maritimo, Cruesoes, Godfathers Beach hOuse, Chines & The Duke.

Come home needing a holiday to recover.

I don't mind them if they behave, I think having glass of any sort on the pool edge is very dangerous, if only they thought about the consequences of a broke glass in the pool - pool closed whilst they clean it up.

Oh well, I suppose it will carry on.

Yes I agree it does need some (alot) of TLC, looking tired in some of the area's.

Debdon - yep Reuben is still there although we didn't have anything to do with him with not having little uns with us - just a very energetic 16 year old!!!
Felt the eve entertainment was lacking but probably because so few people stayed to watch which led to a poor atmosphere. The guy who did The Beatles was the best of the bunch.

Yes we saw the Beatles bloke, very good. As you say not many people stay for the evening entertainment so does make for a poor atmosphere - shame really.

There are 3 couples that I know of from MF staying there in sept/oct so plenty of feedback to come hopefully.
