| Due to the high prices Majorcan hotels were asking for the first week in September we decided to go somewhere different and booked a week at Tossa de Mar on the Costa Brava.
What a find!
Full of charm, spectacular castle right by the beach, spotlessly clean sands and water and much cheaper accommodation!
Much as we love Majorca, we will be tempted to return to the Costa brava for future holidays if Majorcan hoteliers don´t lower their prices.

| We were in Tossa de Mar this April for a week, it is a beautiful place, we stayed in the Tossa Beach Hotel, very good, only thing was that you were 'shooed' off to bed at 11.30 all the lights out, but the food was good the drinks too, not too far from the beach and the old town and castle fab place, will go back again, before Tossa we went to Malgret de Mar, which is much more commercial and not as nice, although the hotel Sorra was ok, food not as good, I have posted on another post. Take care Sarah x |

| Went to Lloret de Mar once for 2 nights of season ,it wasnt a very nice place to be honest but they never look as nice in the winter anyway. _________________ |

| Just as Majorca sometimes creates the wrong vision for prospective visitors so does Costa Brava.I went to Tossa de Mar 25 years ago and like casaianda I was very impressed. While there we had a look at Lloret,Santa Susanna and Malgrat too which were more like the image we had conjured.Bit too much like Blackpool with sun or Benidorm minus the live entertainment.Just shows how one needs to explore and decide for oneself.
We stayed at a 4* hotel Gran Reymar which although well located with sea and castle views was disappointing.I just looked it up on TA and it gets much better write-ups these days. |

| Thanks for the welcome Hayzer!
We thought that Tossa was unique in style and atmosphere amongst the well known resorts of the Costa Brava.
We visited Lloret - went by boat - and, although catering for a much livelier set, it wasn´t as bad as we expected.
Visited Blanes and drove through Santa Susana and Malgrats which we didn´t like at all.
Hotel Reymar looks very smart now WS!

| Hi Casaianda
Mrs Delboy just looked up some reviews on Tossa de mar and although the majority like the place there was a slight sting in the tail for beach lovers, in that the beach was slightly shingle and the hire of two chair beds and a parasol was 15 euros a day. Most of the holiday makers were buying lilo's etc but for me the comfort these give are not the same. So chair beds at £180/210 euros per fortnight would get a no no from me. |

| Can´t speak for July + August but last week 2 x Beds + Parasol cost €10 per day which is similar to the price down here.

| Sarah: "...you were 'shooed' off to bed at 11.30..." Lolololol :gnt: I don't think so... I went to Blanes, but it was in 1983, i'd imagine it has changed a fair bit now. |

| Just seen the photos Graham, they look great and they bring the place alive for us. Mrs Delboy has had a look and is impressed by the whole area. That castle looks in wonderful condition.
Thanks again
