| Agios Gordios 2006 Agios Gordios is a small village/town 20miles south west of Corfu Town. In 2006 Mrs Delboy and I booked Villa Stavroula a self catering apartment holiday with Sunvil. On arrival, the coach had to stop at the top end of Agios Gordios as it was too narrow for the coach to manoeuvre down the road; a small open van took our luggage to the apartment and we walked behind. The apartment was nicely furnished by Greek standards. Everything was new, there were two apartments available in the brochure and both were owned by a Greek lady who often holidayed there herself and also owned the flat upstairs. It was down a small lane off of the road and had its own garden but not much of a view. The terraces of the apartments were west facing, which was nice in the mornings but very hot in the evenings. In Greece you pay for air conditioning and it was then 4 euro’s, the rate of exchange was then 130 euro’s to the £. The village road leading to the beach had taverns and shops down both sides of the street. The sandy beach was also bordered by various taverns. A boardwalk ran along the back of the beach to make walking a bit easier for walking to the restaurants in the evening. There was plenty of beach space and we never felt it was overcrowded. Chair beds and a parasol were 6 euro’s but at the far end of the beach near a Thomson Package hotel they were 7 euro’s. I did have a look inside the Thomson hotel grounds I won’t go on about prices but will say that meals were of average prices in Agios Gordios in comparison with other Greek islands but cheaper than Corfu Town itself. Most of the tavern’s sold their house wine in bottles which does tend to make it dearer and bottles started at around 10 euro’s, so two meals and wine was in the region of 26/30 euro’s. Our favourite Tavern was Sebastian’s at the top of the road they also had a TV to watch the World Cup matches. Other bars televised the World Cup and we regularly went to one bar and watched the matches with other English Fans. When England finally lost we were all devastated and the bar owner kept saying, “I’m so sorry, so sorry”. Only one restaurant gave me a poor meal which I returned and it was replaced with a better one and given apologies. Lunchtimes we ate regularly at the Litho Rock Tavern and they were please to see us. As an anecdote a seagull fell into our garden during the early part of our holiday and it had an injured foot and could not fly, so we called it Beckham, as he too had a leg injury at that time. I kept going out to buy him pilchards and left 4 tins for the next residents with a note and apparently, I’m told on good authority, it flew off after we left. Summing up it’s a place for sunbathers and diner’s that watch the world go by.

| Corfu Town Staying at Agios Gordios it was a cloudy day so Mrs Delboy and I decided to have a trip to Corfu Town. The bus fare was a couple of euros and the journey which included a number of stops was about 50 minutes. When we arrived at Corfu Bus station we found the roads were quite busy so we made our way across a road and followed the coast road until we reached the harbour area. Behind us we could see the old Fortress and the area along the front contained many restaurants, I remember looking at some of the menus as we passed and thinking that’s they were a bit dear. Eventually we found a bar in a nice area which overlooked a shipping lane and had a beer and watched a cruise liner heading towards the harbour. There was also an impressive building on the shore to our right. After relaxing with a beer we trace our path back along the coast and found a restaurant that was reasonable where we had pasta for lunch washed down with another beer. We then headed towards the Old Fortress and discovered that its entrance was tucked in a side street in the old town. We paid the admission (not dear like some of ours). A long slope led us up to the ramparts and at the top, whichever way we looked, there were stunning views. In the Harbour we could see cruise liners that had been berthed To the left of the town there was an esplanade park area which is considered the town’s main square it had those Spanish purple flowers in the centre, making a great display and to the left the shipping lane with mountains as a back drop. Their passengers were out enjoying Corfu Town whilst on their Mediterranean cruises. In the old town the labyrinth of buildings stretched as far as the eye could see and the dominant clock tower of St Spyri don could be seen in the distance. Eventually we headed for the old town, its narrow streets were filled with shops and bazaars and during that time we came across St Spyri dons clock tower. Eventually after buying a few things we headed back to the bus station to finish our day we stopped at a restaurant that sold dishes of ice cream. We arrived at the bus stop too early, a number of people were hovering about, and so we decided to have a glass of coke in the bus garage’s small cafe. I didn’t even bother to ask the price but when the bill came it was 8 euro’s for two cokes I had been stung for the first time in this most unlikely place so beware if ever you go The bus arrived on time and we had another grand day out.

| We also went to Agios Gordios (last year, last week of September) and we stayed in the big white hotel at the end of the beach in the second of your beach pics. You also refer to it as a Thomsons hotel. (It's in the 'Aquis' group) http://www.aquisresorts.com/hotels/corfu/agios-gordios-beach-hotel Whilst I agree with most of Delboys musings, for me the overiding memory is that it was completely riddled with wasps!! To the point that I doubt that i'd ever go back again. Seriously, you couldn't walk back from the bar with a drink in each hand, there would be 2 or 3 wasps round each drink and one or two flying about 2 inches in front of your nose in a side to side type of way, just about right that you couldn't swish them. I've been assured that it's an end of season 'fruit tree's are in season' problem, but for me, i've not had that problem to that extent anywhere else ever so it's a steer slightly wide manoevere for me. Lol at the wine for €10 a bottle... by the bus stop there was a farm shop that sold the wine... €3 a litre!! and it was the same one that the bars/resteraunts sold cos we saw them bottling it up out back The people of AG were very friendly and this would be a big positive for me should I be musing about going back. There was another bar there in the town, Robins Nest, it had the unique instant party atmosphere of only allowing people in that were dressed up in fancy dress!! They had several racks of clothes at the front for you to choose from! A great idea and a certain ice breaker. |

| The view and road down to the resort of AG is quite steep but gives the village it's own seclusion. And there are sunsets to die for pretty much anywhere in the village due to facing due west towards Italy's 'heel'. |

| Hi Mark We went in the June and did not notice any wasps, the hotel you were staying in was mainly used by Thomson clients at that time. I agree with you that the wine could be bought cheaper but I have to be consistent with what you would be charged in the restaurants for it.
Great pictures

| Del, I've just had a look on the TA reviews for this year, only one (posted this week I think) mentions wasps, so it clearly is a seasonal thing. |

| Looks very nice, I have never been but would consider it if there were direct flights from Aberdeen
