Hi, it's been well documented what I'm planning here, so i'll let the pictures tell the story.

Upon completing the move, pics from the front to the rear, externally.

The dreaded Fig Tree.

The Silk Purse Project P1000817

The Silk Purse Project P1000818

It was hard to take pictures of the 'whole' rear at first, due to the overgrown Fig Tree immediately outside the rear door.

There's more pictures but think you've got the idea by now. Very Happy

So, work commenced straight away on the external overgrown areas, need to feel an impact straight away, also couldn't get up the drive properly.

By now there was a considerable heap of trees!

The Silk Purse Project P1000841

The garden shed didn't take much to come down... only to reveal a dumped garage door behind it!

Now to start on the rear, Fig Tree the first to come down!

A gloriously sunny day for the third day, so we decided to press on outside. A grab lorry was arranged and came early.

The Silk Purse Project P1000848

Which soon made short work of the heap.

The Silk Purse Project P1000852

Next we roped in the niece and nephew to help pull the last bigger trees down.

The Silk Purse Project P1000853

Before long we had another big heap of cut down trees.

The Silk Purse Project P1000851

More to come.

You might note, on the first two pics of 'Bed 1', how the conifers shaded over half the bedroom window out Rolling Eyes

Wow, what a difference already. Our famous council trees block the light to our dining room & conservatory, it is always so dark on that side of the house.

Wish they were ours & we could remove them.......those DAM trees have alot to answer for smilie evil

Am loving this Mark, following with interest - great so far. bravo

Are you saying Mark that somebody was actually living in that bungalow before you bought it? Really?
Did you ever think of knocking the whole place down and submitting plans for permission to build a replacement bungalow from scratch?

Yes wirral, a lady was living on her own in that state Shocked

Unbelievable really. She just didn't get it. When she was showing us round it didn't even enter her head that we would be redecorating, from the way she was talking.

No, it didn't enter my head to demolish. It's not in that bad a state. Walls are sound, no damp. Just requires improvements and updating. Exactly what we was looking for.

Work has continued to make headway on the rear garden. The saplings at the back were cleared, but left a whole host of clumped together roots, so a digger was hired to help clear this part.

The Silk Purse Project P1000861

The Silk Purse Project P1000862

Whilst the machine was on hire, the garden was given a scrape down the side to clear all of the offshoots springing up, and the tree roots that could be removed were hauled out.

The Silk Purse Project P1000863

The Silk Purse Project P1000864

With it all cleared, you can now get a view of the rear. There's a local footpath that runs behind all the houses, it's a shortcut through the church to the local shops.

The Silk Purse Project P1000870

The Silk Purse Project P1000871

The Silk Purse Project P1000869

The Silk Purse Project P1000872

In the meantime, a third grab load had cleared the next heap of trees, so I moved the digger to the front garden to try and get the conifer roots out.

The Silk Purse Project P1000836

Unfortunately, the fence couldn't be saved Embarassed

Neither could next doors cable TV supply (and phone line) Embarassed Embarassed

But I made a temporary repair and reported it for them to come round and renew it.

The Silk Purse Project P1000867

With the rear cleared, we put up the rear fence, made it 7 foot high as an extra deterrent with the footpath to the rear being an obvious burglar access point.

The Silk Purse Project P1000875

The Silk Purse Project P1000874

Internally, some progress was made on the first bedroom that's going to be done. The wallpaper was stripped and the wardrobe was started to be dismantled. The walls were surprisingly good, and only two walls need replastering, due to having horrible polystyrene tiles stuck on the wall under the wallpaper.

Great start mate. I love ripping places apart but dont seem to have the patience for scraping wall paper etc anymore.
