Kalamaki is a rsort that the wife and i have seen grow over the years, when we first went about 11 years ago it was a smallish Greek village with just a few bars and restos on what we now call the old strip.

Since then the resort has grown fairly large with the arrival of more bars, restos and hotels on what we call the new strip (suprise suprise), though we still enjoyed the relaxed village feel on our last visit in oct 2009,think we have been 5 or 6 times now.

you can take a 30/40 walk along the beach to lagana, which is popular with the teens.if you carry on again you come to a charming resort called aghios sostis which is lovely.

There are no watersports on Kalamaki beach and it is shut about 7ish in the evenings due to the loggerhead turtles nesting there, i have had the pleasure of swimmimg with the turtles, though i was quite startled the first time one sufaced by me,they are quite big and have a helluva beak, lol.
we thought the food and drink prices we quite reasonable, evening meal for about e8-e10 each and approx e2 for a pint bottle of Mythos or Amstel, and about e3-e3.50 for a draught cider
.
it's a lovely island for touring,we loved cycling to zante town

for a coffee then on again to tsillivi or argasi, also a nice ride/walk is to lagana, aghios sostis then koukla.

another nice walk is over the mountain and down into argasi, either retrace your steps or return by bus or taxi.

sorry, our last visit was this june, oops Kalamaki is very close to the airport and i always enjoy waving to people when the planes come in over the far end of the resort,i suppose this might deter some folk but i have never found it a problem.there are no flights from 10pm till 6am due to the turles.

we never use the package transfers as it's only about e12 for a private taxi, and we have learned from past experience you can save yourself about 2 hours hanging around the airport by doing your own transfer.

Last june we stayed at the roseland hotel which up to now is our favourite in Kalamaki,in the past we have stayed s/c and h/b.the Roseland is a superb b & b hotel and we will return again someday.photo's pending

Looks idyllic. How come I have never been to Greece or her islands? Think it's to do with the wine. Can't stand Greek wine and when I am on holiday I enjoy trying the local wine especially in Spain.Had a holiday in Cyprus once not impressed.

Confession time.In all his 66 yrs WS has never been to Greece.Think it's a wine/food anti-thing.Don't like Greek wine/Greek food-and I have tried both. Shameful really for a man who considers himself well-travelled.Will I overcome this prejudice?Am I running out of time?Words of a song-anyone remember it?

I've been to Nice and the Isles of Greece and I've drank champagne on a yacht,
Lived like Harlow in Monte Carlo and showed them what I've got.
I've been undressed by Kings and I've seen some things that a woman ain't s'posed to see,
I've been to Paradise but I've never been to me.

Some songs have lyrics that live with you forever, that prompt vivid visual images. That is one for me.Also "Where do you go to my lovely?" Peter Sarstedt.

hi delboy,we have stayed s/c,h/b before in zante but we were a bit dubious trying b&b for the first time but we need not have worried as it was fine.
the roseland is the best we have yet stayed at in zante, nice rooms with basic tv channels, fridge, aircon.
it's one of those places where people return year after year, nice friendly, quite hotel.

we have been to kalamaki about 5 times now and it seems that two of the top hotels are the roseland and the venus hotel, which we have visited and looks lovely,if it had one fault imo it was perhaps just a bit close to the resort centre, but that would suit some folk but we love piece and quite at night and like to sleep with the patio doors open.

if you ever fancy trying it i will gladly give my opinion on any accomodation you might opt for,as i know the location of most of them.
also my friend as a great little bar there so his info is up to date and unbiased. sunny

i seem to remember "i've never been to me" being sung by a lady called CHARLENE,i think.
that the same track ws,i used to have that on vinyl, though i've not seen it for years now

Thanks Yosef I will bear that in mind if we decide to try the place

As you know most of the wine is grown locally and never reaches a bottle so WS can never buy it in the local Tesco. The food you buy in the restaurants in Greece can be steaks, pizzas as well as Greek food like Lamp in bag which does turn out to be lamb. Did see goat on the menu in one place, I think Mark has tried it in his travels.

WS should do a Med cruise that includes Parga as a stop, a lovely scenic resort

That's the one yozef.I forgot her name.Probably another one hit wonder.
As it happens del we have booked a cruise for next year that is calling at Santorini and Mykonos.Mrs WS has been to Kefalonia and Corfu.I also think that is a fair comment about the wine. The only Greek wine I have had was out of a bottle,a sweet white (ugh) and a red which had a pine taint to it.
