| This is close to my heart John.In 2002 accompanied by my cousin and a friend I took my car over on le Shuttle, amongst other things to see where my (late) Dad had landed at Arromanches Beach,Normandy, on D-Day as part of the invasion force. He had never been out of England before, his firstborn (me) was only 2 weeks old. Many years later he told many stories of his experiences. He was not a man of words but the graphic accounts were horrific.Human life counted for very little at that time.As the invasion force advanced he didn't sleep in a bed for 4 months. He lived on Woodbines and thoughts of home (his words).I walked the cemetery that was in the opening scenes in Saving Private Ryan and that film still moves me to tears. |

| Thanks for that John. As Roamer put, the photo's that you took, it is truly unimaginable to think what those guys went through when they first hit the beaches. Saving Private Ryan was as close to it as possible, very moving. _________________ Mick

You need to do it because nobody should ever forget what happened to so many ppl the horrors & discomfort & agony on both sides was terrible when i was a kid (Many many yrs ago) i asked my dad about the war he said it was over & shouldnt be talked about i have never agreed to that, never forget that the average german soldier was just that a soldier who didnt want to be where he was as always is the case it was the minority that were the bad guys, i dont know if anyone knows this but the the first country to invent concentration camps was the british in the boer war. If you go you will never regret it
Regards John. |

| Very well put John. This part of our history should never be forgotten. My nephew's girlfriend went on a school trip to Auschwitz a few years ago, & was truly horrified of what she saw & read whilst there.
Lest we forget. _________________ Mick

| We recently had cause to go to Brookwood and went to see the war graves there, probably not quite on the scale of France but even so, the rows and rows of simple white stones stretching as far as the eye can see is truly humbling. |
