Me and Debbie went for a meal at the Marsden Inn ,South Shields yesterday, I had steak pieces with dumplings, mashed potato and peas, I have to say it was one of the worst meals Ive had and the place used to serve good food. The mashed potato was lumpy, the steak was full of fat and I left at least half my meal, I was waiting for the girl to come over and ask if everything was ok and I was gonna tell her, she came over and said Ill take your plates ,she could see we both hadnt ate it all or even half of it. Debbie had mince and dumplings ,the dumplings had no taste to them at all. I defo would not recommend this place to anyone, it had been about 6 months from our last visit and it wasnt to good then but we thought it might just be a one off ,we were wrong once bitten twice shy.

Ju reckon the food was cooked on the premises or bought in Daryn? I know exactly how you both felt about it.I can order a meal I really fancy then when it is on the table in front of me I take 1 or 2 mouthfuls and I can't face any more.Fat on grilled steak for me is OK if it is sirloin and I can cut off the outer rim which I do.But fat on braised steak is a no-no If you can afford it shop for raw Aberdeen Angus (being from Aberdeen does Hayzer know Angus I wonder?) braising steak in M&S,no fat on that.I am sure deliaboy has his own recipe for braising steak but if like me you have no recipes of your own here is a good one to follow-minus photos:-

Delia's How to Cheat at Cooking p 157 Braised steak with a wild mushroom and Madeira sauce.To the ingredients listed by Delia I add quarter teaspoon each of dried thyme and dried parsley before it goes in the oven.Serve with mashed spuds and broccoli or spring greens.

Im old school i like fat on my meat and eat a lot of offal even tripe ,and yes trotters but i was brought u on it but fat on meat is no reason for it to be tough ,its all about knowing what cuts of meat need what cooking .

ohh you got the wrong bar there lol, thats the Marsden Grotto your talking about hehehe, the Marsden Inn is at the top of the bank before you hit the coast road
