Quick question!!

I might be heading out for a mates 50th do sometime in June.

I usually use Easy Jet but Ryanair are coming in quite reasonable and as Im going on my own (without family), I dont mind giving them a go.

with the baggage allowance with easyjet it is 56x45x25, Ryansair are 55x40x20.

My bag is approx 50x40x25, so just 5cm out.

My question (which I guess has been asked a zillion times) is, will I get it through?

5cm is not alot, is it a soft material bag. We flew with them twice the second time they stopped me both ways and told me to check my bag size in the little frame thingy I rammed it in hard lol, I had to put my foot on the bottom of the frame to pull the bag out, I said to the lass it went in and out and she said yes it did and thats fine hehehe.

Their policy is to charge for as much as possible.

Daryn, yea its a soft holdall, so i reckon it would go in. Thanks for the reply.

If it fits in they cant charge you mate.

We always fly Ryanair Ro. Haven't been checked in a few years but my bag is the same size as yours. 3 years ago I was asked to put it in the frame thing like Del. I had to stuff it in a bit but Ryanair lady said it was OK. I then tried to get it out. Couldn't budge it. I was dragging bag and frame about in a circle. Eileen said she thought I was trying to throw the hammer.  Anyway bag came out in end but I gave the queue a good laugh. Even Ryanair lady was smiling

What will be in the case though Ro?

If it's soft and crushable Ro then you'll *probably* be alright, but 5cm is two inches so IMO you are chancing it.
I don't fly with RA at all after my one and only time in 2002, such was the lasting impression...

Ive only ever flown with them once too, it was also a bad experience.

when i go to my seat, there was a pool of sick all over it. I spoke to the stewardess and she said "what do you want me to do".

I ended up changing the seat myself!!!

Think I mentioned this before, about 10 years ago Ryanair on the internet said sporting equipment was £10 extra.

One of the guys on the fishing trip we were on wanted to take his own rods and paid the extra.

At the checkin desk the person in charge said, fishing wasn't a sport and he therefore had to pay a further £40 to take them. What do you do standing at Standsted with your best rods costing hundreds of pounds.

I wouldn't touch Ryanair with a barge pole after he told us his story or is a barge pole sporting equipment lol

My experience with RA, was from Stansted to Marco Polo Airport in Venice. The Captain & a couple of crew members were late in getting to the Airport, so the flight was delayed, until they arrived.

If that was ordinary people like us, they would have taken off with out us on, but no we had to wait for them, how unfair.

I always fly Ryanair. I've always found if you abide by the rules, they are perfectly fine. Up until 2014, they may have not been the most friendly of staff but they were certainly the most efficient. Over the last2 years, Ryanair has gone on a charm offensive. They have a "live chat" option on the website. In Dublin, e.g., they don't have a designated check in desk for each flight, they have one huge desk for any flight over the following 3 hours. You can carry on a second bag on board. It is meant to be the size of a small childs toy backpack, but I have brought my laptop in a oversized backpack and even showed it to the Ryanair lady who said it was no problem. I missed a flight and they put me on the next one, no extra charge.
I think these "horror" stories, have been vastly exaggerated ( not doubting the above). I, as a regular traveller, have certainly never come across any of them nor, have any of my friends and family who all fly Ryanair ( we don't have much of a choice, its either them or Aer Lingus). They also have the highest customer satisfaction rating of all the European airlines.

well my horror story was true I chatted to a very upset angler having to fork out £80 return for rods, he had followed their rules.

If a company think they can do that in the past then they have little morals to which I vote with my feet

My experience was based on the times before there was allocated seating, we was returning to the UK from Reus (near Salou) and as boarding started they opened the gates/doors for a short walk across the tarmac to the aircraft staircase, and the scrummage of people from the back that were RUNNING, literally charging, to get on the plane, knocked some more elderly people at the front to the ground.
I was just so disgusted by the lack of any sort of supervision, or care, that I thought, no thanks.
But I've got friends who make it an annual competition to bend backwards to comply with the rules and around about October or November they get one of the flights to an unpopular German airport, or Eastern bloc, for £1 !! Not so much these days but they used to go to the trouble of actually opening the one type of bank account that you could use to pay for the flights without extra charges

Those days are long gone Mark ( can't believe I'm defending Michael O Bleary ). There was a major and deliberate change in Ryanairs attitude in 2014. We used to find them uncaring but efficient. Now they are friendly and will generally bend with you rather than strict adherence to the rules. I've flown with easi jet before from Belfast.  Found them to be equally friendly and efficient but more expensive. If I'm getting the same level of service for 75% of the price, then as a man with long pockets and short arms, I know which airline will get my business

I thought that you were describing Daryn there Dermo.

I've got no real allegiance either Dermo, it's the right price at the right departure time combination that wins for me. Luckily for Easyjet they seem to be in the right place at the right time for most of my Majorca jaunts.
Have flown Thomson before without probs but lately have been put off since they joined the 'squeeze every extra out of you' club. Their standard is 15kg hold luggage and only 5 kg hand baggage. The hand baggage being the daft bit. I must weigh a good 20 kg difference to my missus and the technics of that just does my head in.
