| Looks like the new leader of Greece is listening to his people, he is doing the right thing by trying to get the balance just right in these holiday resorts. He plans on getting rid of A/I hotel resorts so that the local business benefit from holiday trade, this would be great, I can see these resorts buzzing again.
Wonder if other countries will follow, we will have to keep an eye on this and see how it goes. He gets a thumbs up from me though, lets hope the locals dont get greedy though and take advantage as they did last time and wreck it for themselves. Im not sure what the new tax is about though, does that effect the paying tourist, big mistake if it does.

| Daryn,
Interesting read, its a good move but as they say it may drive people to elsewhere where they continue with AI.
of course there is a market for AI but it really is finding the balance as it can damage the local businesses (which we have seen).

| I remember when we were A/I hotel Hawaii, we were just as guilty although we went out at night. I remember us and everyone else going for a walk and getting two bottles of water each to take with us. Its all money out of the small business pockets but we had paid for it.
I much prefer S/C we loved it in Tenerife, first time Ive done a two week holiday A/I. But it depends on the price of the accommodation, I have t admit if I was offered A/Iat the same price are a £100 more I would go A/I _________________ |

| All inc in Mexico or the Caribbean is a different matter, go out of the resort and there's NOTHING for miles. But in these Med Islands the infrastructure has been built upon holidaymakers arriving and going out and spending locally. People invest thousands into setting up their own businesses. Then some greedy berk moves the goalposts. |

| The only time we went AI was in Mexico, in Cancun. That was 1997. I wouldn't do it again, far too confining even though we had 6 restaurants a 4 different bars to choose from. The only time I liked it was when the yanks had gone to bed and you could have a chat with the bar staff and get to know a bit more about the country and people. |

| All good points.
I remeber going to Cyprus with the lads once and we were in an AI (although didnt realise it until we arrived), we hardly used it but some people did big time time. Bpoozing from 11.00 non stop and by 4.00 asleep!!
We found the same in Pirates hotel in SP last year when we went to see a pirates show one night, it was quite a boozy atmosphere and didnt seem quite right for a family/cheldrens themed hotel! |

| More info on Greece and what it would mean if they left the Eurozone
Ive briefly read through this and the bit about tourism getting a boost if they went back to drachma is something I spoke about before.
Here is a quote from that piece - - -
The key reason for optimism, however, for the Greeks if they left the euro, would be the benefit of a devalued currency on exports and the tourism industry, which accounts for 17 per cent of the country’s GDP. Holidays would become far cheaper, encouraging more people to visit Greece.
After the Icelandic banking crisis in 2008, the krona depreciated by 40 per cent. As a result, now the number of visitors to Iceland is up by 60 per cent and national output is close to pre-crisis levels
