| Stayed here in late July 2010. Picturesque resort full of narrow winding streets that are lined with shops, bars and restaurants. Lovely atmosphere in the evening but very busy high season. Some great quality restaurants for food buffs. During the day the beaches are excellent. with some stunning rock formations around white sand. There is a lovely river that runs up from the sea to a large marina. We had a great time.
Only down side is its a fair drive from Faro airport, dont make the mistake we did of sharing a shuutle bus, took 2.5 hours! Get a private transfer which would be probably a good hour.

Rep again Ian - got to reward effort! We used to visit Lagos some evenings when we rented a villa in Burgau (about 15miles/km west). Nice place to eat and some 'bongo' shops for the kids to spend their cash! The next resort West was Luz, which was smaller - just some restaurants overlooking a horse shoe shaped bay, with fine sand. And Burgau was quieter still . . everything closed down early - but that was some years ago. I remember we ate at the Beach bar in Burgau (right on the sand) several nights . . great swordfish! And the sound of the waves . . . then we'd just go back 'home' and chill with a nice bottle . . . In those days, few people there spoke English - you had to point to things in the bakery and raise the appropriate number of fingers . . but the last time I google earthed it, there were many more developments . . not sure what it's like now . . Would love to go back to Portugal . . . anyone been to Carviero . . . Alvor? Or have a hidden secret they'ld like to share . .

thanks Boss, Alvor is on my radar for next years holiday i just cant find the right apartments close enough to the resort centre. We need 2 bedroom apartments and the best ive found is fair walk to the centre and beach which isnt great with children.

I have been having a look and found this one. http://www.holidaylettings.co.uk/rentals/alvor/62816 Looks ideal, plush and a good location - possibly expensive for high season for 2 weeks?? (we are used to alpharooms/ Travel republic prices )

Yes - 910 - 985 is a bit steep for a week in June/July . . . especially with a shared pool . . . Also, although it isn't high rise, the look of those high rise blocks in the background puts me off . . . I am picky . . to say the least . . . Thanks for sharing!
